Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
‘Still Standing II’ comes from a series of works titled ‘Small Things’ which explores the fragility, beauty and transience of life through small objects. ‘Still Standing II’, with its battered pear, yellow and blue background encourages reflection on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
‘Trump Farce One’ comes from the ‘Fairground’ series which combines social satire and magical realism. The ‘Fairground’, based in part on Gertler’s ‘Merry-go-Round’ presents a dystopian world where, among other things, ‘Alpha’ males launch themselves in flying dodgem cars in vain attempts at transcendence. ‘Trump Force One’ from where the title ‘Trump Farce One’ is derived, is the nickname associated with the Trump organisation’s Boeing 757.
