Stoneware Bowl & Mold
Mixing bowl diameter: 12.5 inches Mixing bowl height: 6.25 inches Cake mold diameter: 8.5 inches Cake mold height: 3.5 inches. This lot consists of two pieces of American utility stoneware. The first item is a large yellowware mixing bowl featuring a flared, thickened rim and a pedestal base. The exterior is finished in a mustard-yellow glaze and decorated with a central band comprising three horizontal white stripes bordered by two thin cobalt blue lines. The interior is finished in a matching yellow glaze. The underside is unglazed and bears no maker marks. The second item is a fluted sponge cake or Turk's Head mold with a central hollow chimney. The mold features a swirled interior and exterior pattern and is finished in a Rockingham-style manganese glaze, resulting in a mottled reddish-brown color with dark brown to black sponged highlights. The underside is heavily glazed and shows no maker's stamps; it retains several kiln stilt marks. A few small spots of blue pigment are present on the exterior base.
