[ translate ]

Stony Meteorite Ordinary Chondrite, L5 Edwards Airforce Base Kern County, California, USA This ordinary chondrite is anything but, as it has the "Right Stuff" recovered at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert of California where those associated with America's Space Program received training. Collected from the debris dump of the dry lakebed that serves as the runway for the AFB, this specimen is classified as an L5 chondrite. The key factors about this example are it is a complete individual with complete coverage of fusion crust. The rock weighs 170 grams and is very visually appealing with the coffee brown "skin" punctuated by some light spots of a dull reddish hue that adds contrast to the surface. There are indications of orientation, and shallow regmaglypt "thumbprints" are visible on the specimen. Overall Measurements: 2.17 x 1.97 x 1.57 inches (5.50 x 5.00 x 4.00 cm), weighs 170.05 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
