Striking Image of Union Soldiers- Arms & Corps Badges

This quarter plate tintype photo exhibits great condition and content. Three Union soldiers sit closest to the camera, with an enthusiastic civilian friend standing behind them. The focus appears to be on the young lieutenant seated in the center, who carries an officer’s sword and wears a prominent V Corps Maltese cross badge on his jacket. The soldier to his right sports a star-shaped XII badge on his hat. Their relationship is unclear but these were hard-fought troops who likely fought together in the east. Perhaps these pards were celebrating their friend’s appointment. In any case, this soldier image is crystal clear, in excellent condition, and is worthy of further research. It is housed in a full leatherette case. A strong visual example of brothers in arms.
