Studio Wieki Somers - Thomas Eyck - Vase - Ice Flower - Limited edition, number 38/99
The "Ice Flower" (2016) was inspired by the Global Seed Vault on Spitsbergen. In this huge vault in Norway, the seeds of rare plants and flowers are stored, as a backup of nature. The vase consists of sixteen square glass plates which have been glued on top of each other. The glass plates are not all completely aligned, making the sides ribbed, hence referring to a block of ice. Dried flowers have been fixed between the plates. There is a test tube at the centre of the vase, which can be used to hold a flower. This wonderful vase has a weight of no less than 16 kg! Numbered and signed edition of 99 pieces. This is vase 38/99 Work by Studio Wieki Somers (Wieki Somers & Dylan van den Berg) is included in various museum collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.
