(Dutch, 1575-1650)

"Kitchen Interior with Two Women Preparing Food, with Scene of Christ at the Supper of Emmaus in Background"

oil on canvas
unsigned.
Framed.
45" x 51-1/2", framed 59-1/2" x 67"

Provenance: Sold as attributed to Gottfried von Wedig, Leo Spik, Cologne, Germany, June 17, 2004, lot 406; Cavalier Fine Art, Houston, Texas, U.S.A., Private collection, Texas, U.S.A.
Condition Report: In overall good condition. Painting exhibits several campaigns of professional, well-integrated restoration and varnishing. There are three patches en verso to the upper left quadrant (scene with Christ, window and to the left of the woman's head/neck) with correspondent inpainting. Additional areas of inpainting are scattered throughout. Both figures' faces exhibit notable inpainted "touch-ups". There is a horizontal stretcher mark along the top of the canvas and some light abrading to the upper left corner and edges. Edges have been partially taped, but painting does not appear to have been relined. Fine to light craquelure is present throughout. Canvas verso has been strengthened with a clear varnish/adhesive in a handful of small spots ~1/2". Frame with a few light scuffs and nicks.
