Provenance: Christie's, London, June 8, 1995, lot 83; William R. Eubanks Interior Design, Inc., Palm Beach, Florida; Private collection.

Exhibited: Belfast Free Public Library, Belfast, Ireland, ca. 1900 (now the Ulster Museum).

Notes: Another version of this portrait is conserved at Chirk Castle, a Grade I listed castle in County Wrexham Borough, Wales.
Condition Report: Overall very good professionally restored condition. Scattered areas of abrading, especially along upper edge where canvas meets frame; some surface scratches/whitish accretions at center, upper right and lower right, small other spots; some darkening of varnish layer. Overall craquelure. Evidence of past restoration: inpainting scattered throughout (face and hand virtually untouched), difficult for uv light to completely penetrate varnish layer. Painting has been relined. Frame with abrasions and losses throughout.
