Style of Picasso, Ink Wash on Newsprint
In the style of Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973), an ink wash executed on an edition of the French newspaper "Le Figaro, 10 Fevrier 1955". A depiction of a female figure, abstracted in a manner similar to Picasso's eclectic later work. The work is inscribed with the name "Picasso". Fully unfolded, the newsprint measures 23 1/4" x 33 1/4", and the image measures 20 1/2" x 15".
Though Pablo Picasso was known to have created similar works, this work, from a German collection and said to be acquired decades prior from an unknown gallery in France, is completely unconfirmed as an authentic Picasso. The work was presented to the Picasso authentication board, who declined to confirm the work's authenticity.
Condition Report: Small amount of tearing to the folds and crossfolds. Overall toning to the newsprint, which darkens a little bit approaching the centerfold.
