Description
This horizontal calligraphy work by Su Shishu features four large seal-script characters: *Hou De Zai Wu (Virtue Can Bear All Things)*, created in spring of Renchen year. The main characters draw inspiration from ancient bronze inscriptions, rendered with powerful, solid ink. The characters are broad and stately, with full and forceful lines. The running script colophon below records the famous quote from *I Ching*, its fluid strokes create a nice contrast with the static seal script above. The phrase “Virtue Can Bear All Things” is a classic Chinese maxim, meaning a noble person with profound virtue embraces all things. The composition is well balanced. Combining seal and running script, this work demonstrates solid calligraphic skill, elegant and solemn, a fine example of the artist’s calligraphy.
