Sudarso (Purwokerto, C. Java, 1914 - Purwakarta, W. Java, 2006) Menunggu (Waiting)
In this work, Sudarso painted a woman who seemed to be resting, seated on a rock. The way she is dressed, with a cloth tied over her waist on the outside of her kebaya, is typical for a Balinese woman dressed for an odalan temple ceremony. She has a basket on her lap filled with offerings and other ceremonial equipment for the temple odalan. This painting comes from the collection of the late a famous Indonesian lawyer. Her eclectic collection consist of artworks by various Indonesian artists, ranging from the more laid back, humorous artists, like Faizal and Ade Artie Tjakra, to the more serious, senior artists, like Dolorosa Sinaga, Maria Tjui, Amrus Natalsya, Soetopo, Jeihan Sukmantoro, and Sudarso.
