Superb Eocene Crocodile - A Recent Discovery

Fossils from the Green River Formation are world famous for their quality and diversity. Rare among the exceptional specimens that have been quarried over the past one hundred years are the crocodilians. Complete individuals are known only by a handful of specimens. In Southwestern Wyoming, a subtropical environment existed during the Early Eocene, with rivers and streams flowing into ancient Fossil Lake, approximately 52 million years ago. The largest crocodiles were the apex predators of this freshwater lake system.

Recently discovered, in the summer of 2016, the present specimen is arguably one of the finest ever found. Not only is it very well articulated, it also exhibits the contents of the stomach along with numerous gastroliths (stomach stones.) The dramatic presentation of the fossil, in original matrix, displays superb dimensionality and creates a visually stunning impact. Measuring 72 x 39in
