English description below DRC Congo Lega Idimu Mask The face covered in kaolin and in the shape of a heart is characteristic of the Lega. Although Idimu masks are significantly larger than the little Lukwakongo masks, they are stylistically very similar. Those are collective masks used in ceremonies reserved to high-ranked members of the Bwami. This type of mask was used within the Bwami, a society which organised the social structure and ensured stability in the Lega community. The Lega are a Bantu forest people from central Africa, mainly established in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the provinces of south Kivu and Maniema. Features: Type of object: Mask.
