Mechelen alabaster - The Maundy - 16th century - Renaissance period. Superb panel with alabaster in relief representing Christ washing the feet of his disciples, Mechelen, early 16th century. The very scenographic staging of the scene and the refined plasticity of the superimposed figures make this relief comparable to the work of Jacob Verhulst, a sculptor active in Mechelen in the early 16th century. Old restoration. There is still the original oak support. Framed in a frame from the 16th century, probably added with the restoration. Size: Frame size: 20 cm x 17. 5 cm - Relief size: 12. 6 cm x 9. 7 cm. Provenance: Germany, D. M. R. gallery. Previously: former German collection formed in the 1970/1980s. The seller can prove that the lot was obtained legally, declaration of provenance seen by Catawiki. Important information: The seller guarantees that he/she is allowed to sell/export this lot. The seller will ensure that the necessary authorisations, such as an export licence, are organised (passport for a cultural object) .
