Sydney Lough THOMPSON (1877-1973) "Mount Cook, Nouvelle-Zélande" Rare and superb depiction of Mount Cook by New Zealand artist Sydney Lough THOMPSON, who spent time in William BOUGUEREAU’s studio and at the Julian Academy early 20th century before returning to his native country where he became a teacher at Canterbury College school of art". From 1912 on, he regularly stayed in Concarneau, Brittany, France, painting its port over 500 times, which would become his iconic topic. He travels between France and New Zealand all his life long. He exhibits at the prestigious Parisian gallery Georges PETIT, as well as in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland. . . A retrospective at the Pont-Aven Museum in 1992 was dedicated to him. His works, with their powerful post-impressionist touch, have very vivid colours that delight collectors. His ratings is high, his paintings are sought after both in France and in New Zealand!
