Sylvia Penther war eine vielseitige österreichische Malerin, Grafikerin und Illustratorin. Sie gilt als markante Vertreterin der Wiener Moderne, deren Schaffen sich durch eine enge Verbindung von traditionellem Kunsthandwerk und ausdrucksstarker bildender Kunst auszeichnet. Neben Modegrafiken entwirft sie handgeschriebene Bücher, Kleingrafik-Serien und über 50 Exlibris, meist in der Technik des Holzschnitts. Als Malerin widmet sie sich Landschaften und Stillleben in Öl und Aquarell. Ihr Malstil besticht durch klare Linien, flächige Gestaltung und reduzierte Farbigkeit, was die Handschrift der gelernten Grafikerin widerspiegelt. Sylvia Penther was a versatile Austrian painter, graphic artist and illustrator. She is regarded as a prominent figure of Viennese Modernism, whose work is characterised by a close fusion of traditional craftsmanship and expressive visual art. In addition to fashion illustrations, she designed hand-illustrated books, small-scale print series and over 50 bookplates, mostly using the woodcut technique. As a painter, she devoted herself to landscapes and still lifes in oil and watercolour. Her painting style is characterised by clear lines, flat composition and a restrained colour palette, reflecting the signature style of a trained graphic artist.
