Taishang ganying pian tushuo (Illustrated Explanation of the Tract of the Most Exalted on Action and Response), was originally published in 1164 as a Daoist text on morality, ethics and karmic merit and demerit. Presented as the words of Laozi, the legendary founder of Daoism, this text was extremely popular in the centuries that followed, some suggesting it as the most widely reprinted book in the pre-Modern era. The illustrated version first appeared in the Qing dynasty.
