TALMUD BAVLI – BABYLONIAN TALMUD, 14 VOLUMES. THIS SET OF TALMUD VOLUMES BELONGED TO THE GREAT RABBI SHMUEL HELLER OF TZEFAS (1803-1884), AND CONTAINS NUMEROUS SIGNATURES AND MARGINAL NOTES IN HIS HANDWRTING. MORE RECENTLY, THESE VOLUMES BELONGED TO THE REVERED REBBE OF TOLDOS AHARON, RABBI AVRAHAM YITZCHAK KOHN (1914-1997) OF JERUSALEM - A DESCENDANT OF RABBI SHMUEL HELLER.

Talmud Bavli, Lemberg 1861-1867. 14 volumes including 23 Tractates: Shabbos, Pesachim, Rosh Hashana, Megilla, Sukka, Beitza, Kesubos, Nazir, Sotah, Kiddushin, Bava Kamma, Bava Metzia, Bava Basra, Shevuos, Eiduyos, Makkos, Horayos, Bechoros, Erechin, Temura, Kerisus, Meilah, Nidda and Mishnayos Toharos.

The personal Shas of the gaon and tzadik Rabbi Shmuel Heller, renowned for his outstanding Torah knowledge and exceptional diligence. The Shas was inherited by his daughter’s son Rabbi Moshe Deutsch of Kretchenif, and subsequently, by his grandson, the famous Rebbe of Toldos Aharon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kohn of Jerusalem. It is very rare that a Shas belonging to such famous chassidic leaders, and sanctified by their diligent study over many years, is offered at auction.

Rabbi Shmuel Heller, born in Zlotchov, descendant of the Tosfos Yomtov, close adherent of the Chernobil chassidic dynasty. He arrived in Tzefas with his parents, gradually becoming close to the community leadership, particularly after the passing of his Rebbe, Rabbi Avraham Dov of Avrutch – the Bas Ayin, in 1840. A highly respected rabbinical leader of the chassidic community deeply involved in its contacts with Eastern Europe, with the local Sephardic community and its rabbis, with the Ottoman authorities and with the local Arab population.

Rabbi Moshe Deutsch of Kretchenif, son of Rabbi David Nassan Deutsch – author of Nefesh David and son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Heller of Tzefas. Rebbe in Sighet. His signatures are very rare.

Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kohn was the founder of the Toldos Ahron chassidic dynasty, son-in-law of Rabbi Ahron Roth – author of Shomer Emunim. The Toldos Avraham Yitzchak community is led by his son and named after him. Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kohn was born in Tzefas and was a descendant of its venerated Rabbi Shmuel Heller. Disciple of Rabbi Yisrael Freund of Huniad, Rabbi Yehuda Rosner of Sekelyhed and Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar of whom he was a staunch follower. Chosen as successor to his father-in-law by a majority of his chassidim, and founder of Toldos Ahron communities and institutions.

14x22 cm. Tractate Bava Metzia is lacking first three leaves, of which copies have been included. Condition of all volumes is good or very good, some staining and a little worming on a minority of pages. Old bindings.
