This British drama was directed by Alberto Cavalcanti, and stars Derek Bond, Cedric Hardwicke and Mary Merrall. The screenplay was based on the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. It is the story of a kind young man, who struggles to protect his family and friends from the abusive exploitation of his mean uncle. Edward Ardizzone was an English painter, print-maker and war artist. He also wrote and illustrated books, many for children. After the war Ardizzone was commissioned by Ealing Studios and Guinness to design promotional material.
