THE RAINBOW HEADDRESS AND NICOLE MILLER DRESS WORN AS GRAND MARSHAL AT THE WEST HOLLYWOOD PRIDE PARADE
2003
The headdress decorated with rhinestones, sequins, and multicolored feathers, with a Nicole Miller strapless multi-colored dress. (2)
height of headdress approximately 32in
Footnotes:
Worn at the Gay Pride Parade in West Hollywood, California, 22 June 2003. Lauper was Grand Marshal at the Parade and headlined the Wells Fargo main stage. It was also Lauper's 50th birthday.

Always different from those around her, Cyndi felt a kinship to the marginalized. When she first left home, her neighbors Carl Eagleston and Gregory Natal (who also inspired her song 'Boy Blue') took her under their wing and cared for her in a way no one else had. When Gregory passed away from HIV/AIDs in 1986, Cyndi took to heart her promise that he would be remembered. Her song 'True Colors' became an anthem of the LGBTQIA+ movement, and in 2008, Cyndi Lauper, Lisa Barbaris, Jonny Podell, and Gregory Lewis founded True Colors United (formerly the True Colors Fund), to help combat the homelessness experienced by LGBTQ+ youth. The fund offers free training and resources and advocates in government and media to help ensure critical funding and services. In Cyndi's words, 'We each have a personal responsibility to make sure LGBTQ+ youth are treated with dignity and respect.'
