THE VOLKMANN BERGAMA RUG, WEST ANATOLIA

late 17th or early 18th century

approximately 222 by 164cm; 7ft. 3in., 5ft. 5in.

Condition Report:
Pile generally good to fair overall, ranging from approx 2 mm. down to knotbars. The brighter red visible in the image is restoration, in spot areas across the centre of the rug and in the central area of the main field, and bottom half of right hand border. The outer guard stripes are mainly reconstructed, with some original areas in the upper end guards. Additional photographs are available on request from the department.
