THÉODORE DECK
(Guebwiller 1823–1891 Paris)
Faience vase, circa 1900. Polychrome painted with decoration in low relief depicting flowers, branches and birds. Side handles with dragon-head terminals. The underside with "TH. DECK" manufactory stamp and his medallion.
H 26.8 cm.
Provenance:
Peter Ducret Collection, Kilchberg.
Literature:
Probably depicted in Sandor Kuthy: Albert Anker. Fayencen in Zusammenarbeit mit Théodore Deck. Zurich and Schwäbisch Hall 1985, p. 14.
According to a copy of a loan receipt for the exhibition "Albert Anker - Fayencen in Zusammenarbeit mit Théodore Deck", held at the Haus zum Rechberg (May–June 1985) and the Kunstmuseum Bern (July–September 1985), organized by the Department of Education of the Canton of Zurich and the Swiss Institute for Art Research and curated by Dr. S. Kuthy, "three faiences" from the Peter Ducret Collection were exhibited.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Sandor Kuthy published "Albert Anker. Fayencen in Zusammenarbeit mit Théodore Deck", Zurich/Schwäbisch Hall, 1985. The publication illustrates six faience pieces in black and white that correspond exactly to six examples from the Peter Ducret Collection (pp. 14–15). On the basis of the loan receipt, it may be assumed that the vases illustrated there came from this collection and that three of them were included in the exhibition.
