THREE CHINESE HANGING SCROLL PAINTINGS 20th Century 二十世紀 掛軸三幅 Comprising: After LI SHAN 李鱓 (China, 1686 - 1786), Banana Leaves; TANG YUNSHAN 唐蘊山 (Shanghai, China, 1905 - 1993), Snowy Landscape, dated 1993; UNKNOWN ARTIST 佚名, Peacock; Ink and colour on paper, mounted as hanging scrolls Colophons and red seals 94.5cm high, 43.3cm wide; 97.4cm high, 43.7cm wide; 94cm high, 28.5cm wide (3) - NOTE: Tang Yunshan (1905-1993) was a Chinese painter and art educator known for his contributions to the development of modern Chinese painting. He was born in Shanghai and began studying traditional Chinese painting at a young age. He later attended the Shanghai School of Fine Arts, where he was trained in both Western and Chinese painting techniques. In the 1930s, Tang became a leading figure in the Lingnan School of Painting, which was based in Guangzhou and emphasized the use of bright colors and bold brushwork. He was known for his unique style, which blended elements of traditional Chinese painting with modernist approaches. In addition to his artistic practice, Tang was a highly respected art educator. He taught at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts for over three decades, and his students included many of China's leading contemporary artists. Tang's contributions to Chinese art have been widely recognized.
