THREE RUSSIAN ICONS, 19TH CENTURY. Comprising a large Russian icon of The Holy Visage, or as the title inscribed in the upper margin in Old Church Slavonic identifies “The Not Made by Hands Image of Our Lord,” this being the face of Christ as miraculously transferred to a holy cloth held by two angels on either side standing atop Palekh style clouds, 15.5 inches x 13.75 inches (39.5 x 34.5 cm). Together with an icon of the Holy Trinity with Saints depicting the Old Testament Trinity at top center and below full length images of five saints including Dmitri, Matrona, the Apostle John, the Holy Martyr Alexandra, and Daria. The borders rendered in faux cloisonné enamel with scattered losses as shown, 16 inches x 13.75 inches (40 x 35 cm), and an icon in four parts depicting three miracle working images of the Mother of God, at top center, Christ delivers a blessing, and in the central section within a medallion, the Lord Emmanuel together with the Archangel Michael rendered lower left. The borders with the Guardian Angel and various other saints, scattered losses as shown, 15.25 inches x 13.5 inches (39 x 34.5 cm).
