THREE SIGNED PANELS OF NASTA'LIQ CALLIGRAPHY Qajar Iran and North India, 19th century Persian manuscripts on paper, comprising a panel of Persian black nasta’liq and red ta’liq script on buff, gold-sprinkled paper, the text panel divided into four horizontal bands with gold and black rules, three lines in praise of fair rulers, the fourth signed Muhammad 'Ali and dated 1300 AH (1882 AD), set within blue, black, and blush borders, in a gilt-bevelled mount, framed and glazed, the text panel 20.7cm x 10.6cm, 53.5cm x 42.5cm including the frame; a North Indian panel of Persian nasta’liq calligraphy, containing two quatrains, one in praise of a prince in chalipa format, and the latter in praise of the art of calligraphy, signed Mir Ahmad, the buff paper ground with scrolling gold motifs, within concentric illuminated rust, blue, and pink borders, in a gilt-bevelled mount, framed and glazed, the text panel 13cm x 7.2cm, 41cm x 34.5cm including the frame; and lastly, a panel with three double lines of nasta’liq Persian poetry regarding the importance of nurture and education, the chalipa lines in glazed cloudbands against a gold ground, signed Fath 'Ali, dated 1264 AH (1848 AD), within gold and russet borders, and gold and black rules, mounted, framed and glazed, the text panel 21.3cm x 10.2cm, 34cm x 22cm including the frame.Click here to share:
