THREE WOOD NETSUKE OF DOGS AND AN EBONY WOOD NETSUKE OF A MONKEY

Japan, 19th century

The first of ebony wood depicting a monkey resting above an uchiwa-fan. The second a recumbent puppy with inlaid eyes, signed underneath MASANAO. The third and fourth depicting a dog on an upturned mortar which contains an awabi shell, signed underneath SADANAGA and TOMOMITSU respectively.

HEIGHTS 2.7 – 3.2 cm

Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and few surface scratches. The first with a natural age crack.
Provenance: French private collection.
