TIAN SHIGUANG (1916-1999), ATTRIBUTED TO, CHINESE PAINTING OF SINGING BIRDS UPON PERSIMMON TREE

[ translate ]

A Chinese painting attributed to Tian Shiguang (1916-1999), singing birds upon persimmon tree. This meticulous flower-and-bird painting has a full yet lively composition. Ripe persimmons hang in clusters on rugged branches, layered green leaves fill the frame, and several small birds perch amid the boughs, interacting with vivid expressions. Executed with refined brushwork, the work uses forceful lines to delineate outlines and is washed with warm, bright hues. The composition features well-arranged density and sparsity. Aged trunks, fresh fruits, green foliage and songbirds echo one another, balancing motion and stillness to depict a peaceful, lush and vibrant garden scene.
Ink and color on paper, hanging scroll.
Image: 99 x 61 cm.

Note: The work bears an inscription to Gustav Ecke and an inscription in the name of Tian Shiguang, with seal marks. The inscription is dated 1962.

Provenance: By repute, from an important private collection.
