"Dressed in white robes, the monks climbed the sacred statue using ropes and ladders suspended from the ceiling beams to dust off the snail-shaped curls, scrub behind the ears and the nape of the neck, and sweep the shoulders, chest, and outstretched palm with a broom. It took about fifty monks to complete this task.”
