LITERATURE From Polaroid to Impossible, Masterpieces of Instant Photography - WestLicht Collection, Ostfildern 2011, p. 164.
In the early 1980s, the Dutch photographer Toto Frima used the Polaroid SX-70 process to create a body of work that explores the body, identity and movement. Toto Frima uses the Polaroid as a medium for intense self-reflection, in which her own body – usually depicted in fragments – becomes an expression of inner experiences. Her intimate works explore the ambivalence of pleasure and pain, whilst simultaneously challenging traditional notions of the photographic self-portrait.
