TRUMAN CAPOTE'S BULLDOG PHOTOGRAPH IN A WHITE WOODEN FRAME

[ translate ]

A black and white photograph of an English bulldog lying on a beach, forelegs stretched out in the sand, head up and square to the camera with its mouth open. The dog is predominantly white about the head and chest with a dark patch covering one eye and that ear, the opposite ear and cheek pale, and a dark brindled saddle over the shoulders and back. Flat wet sand and a pale horizon behind. Warm-toned and printed to a good size. Set behind glass on a charcoal gray mount with a narrow gilt fillet, in a limed wood frame, the back closed with brown board and hung on wire.

Condition: the print with light overall toning and faint surface marks, the image sharp and the detail good. The mount clean with light scuffing. The frame with rubbing to the limed finish and knocks at the corners; the backing board browned and creased with old tape at the upper edge.

Approx. Dimensions: 8 " x 10 "

Artist or Maker: Unknown

Provenance: Truman Capote; Gerald Clarke, his biographer
