TRUMAN CAPOTE'S BUTTERFLY DISPLAY
A tall narrow display case, the ebonized frame glazed on both faces so the specimens read from either side, with a ring for hanging. No specimen labels anywhere in the case.
Condition: the frame with light rubbing to the black finish and small losses at the corners; the glazing clean. The specimens dry and intact as seen, with the usual fragility of pinned material - wings on several are lifted or slightly skewed. Not examined out of the case.
Approx. Dimensions: 6" W x 16" L x 1" Deep
Artist or Maker: Unknown
Provenance: Truman Capote; Gerald Clarke, his biographer
This lot is part of The Magpie and the Swans: The Possessions of Truman Capote, collected over a lifetime between New York and Sagaponack, and preserved since 1984 by his biographer, Gerald Clarke.
Notes: Although care is taken to photograph and describe the item, absence of a condition report does not imply perfect condition. It is the responsibility of the buyer to verify the condition of the item, either in person or by requesting a condition report.
Appeal: butterfly display, entomology, morpho, heliconius, 88 butterfly, diaethria, neotropical butterflies, mounted butterflies, double glazed case, natural history, insect collection, cabinet of curiosities, decorative arts, sagaponack, truman capote
