TRUMAN CAPOTE'S THREE HANDMADE ACRYLIC PAPERWEIGHTS, AS SEEN IN ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST 1976

[ translate ]

Three domed acrylic paperweights, each circular with a flat base and a botanical specimen set within the resin. Capote began collecting paperweights in 1948, when Colette gave him one in Paris — that weight is also in this sale — and in time he began making his own.

Condition: all three have clouded with age and two show a fine overall crazing running through the body of the resin. Light surface scratching to the domes. The specimens themselves are intact within.

Approx. Dimensions: each approx. 3 " Dia x 1.5 " H

Artist or Maker: Truman Capote

Provenance: Truman Capote; Gerald Clarke, his biographer

This lot is part of The Magpie and the Swans: The Possessions of Truman Capote, collected over a lifetime between New York and Sagaponack, and preserved since 1984 by his biographer, Gerald Clarke.

Literature: Architectural Digest, January/February 1976, text by Rosemary Kent, photography by Richard Champion.

Notes: Although care is taken to photograph and describe the item, absence of a condition report does not imply perfect condition. It is the responsibility of the buyer to verify the condition of the item, either in person during our viewing hours prior to auction or through requested condition reports. All bids are final and are subject to our terms and conditions.

Appeal: acrylic paperweights, lucite paperweights, handmade paperweights, capote made object, architectural digest 1976, sagaponack, hamptons, decorative arts, mid-century acrylic, artist made, set of three, literary memorabilia, truman capote
