Tur Al Hatorah, by Rabbi Yaakov Ben Harosh. Zolkiew 1806 – with approbations by Chassidic leaders.

This book has three stamps, two with the name of Rabbi Nachum Dovber of Sadagura, another one confirming it as a gift, as well as a handwritten note ‘Minchas Ger’ (gift from a proselyte).

RABBI NACHUM DOV BER FRIEDMAN OF SADAGURA AND HIS LIBRARY
Rabbi Nachum Dov Ber Friedman was a grandson of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin, and a highly revered member of the Sadagura chassidic dynasty. He was also famous for his huge and valuable library of Hebraica books and manuscripts, considered one of the most important libraries of its kind. Books were stamped indicating whether they were heirlooms, purchases or gifts. It is also known that the library included a number of books bequeathed to Rabbi Nachum Dov Ber by proselytes. One such book is currently at the National Library in Jerusalem, and here we have another rare item with the same inscription.

After Rabbi Nachum Dov Ber’s passing, his library was divided, with some sections being sold to libraries and private collectors. This particular book subsequently came into the possession of Rabbi Meir Yosef Rubin, the Rebbe of Kerestier.

Rabbi Meir Yosef Rubin, son and disciple of Rabbi Baruch Rubin of Brizdovitz, of the Ropshitz chassidic dynasty. Also studied under Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler, Rabbi of Mad and author of Levushei Mordechai. Son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Steiner - the son and successor of the famous Rebbe of Kerestier Rabbi Yeshaya Steiner. Rabbi Meir Yosef was Rebbe in Kerestier for 17 years, continuing the tradition of hospitality and bringing all kinds of salvation to Jews in distress, until the Holocaust.
