TWO AUBERGINE AND TURQUOISE GLAZED ‘FISH’ ROOF TILES, MING
China, 1368-1644. Each fish is modeled from earthenware on a wave form support above the semi-circular tile, with deeply incised tails and scales, raised heads and bulging eyes. With two nicely fitted wood bases. (4)
Condition: Old wear, traces of use, chipping to edges, firing flaws and kiln grit, one with a loss to a section of the tile.
Provenance: From a French estate.
Weight: 5.8 kg (together, but without bases).
Dimensions: Height 32 cm (including bases).
