TWO CHINESE SILK EMBROIDERED RANK BADGES, BUZI Qing Dynasty, 19th Century 清十九世紀 刺繡文官六品鷺鷥紋方補 Comprising a buzi embroidered with an egret, corresponding to the sixth civil rank, perched atop an outcrop over tumultuous waves and amidst swirling clouds contaning the bajixiang, enclosed by a border of shou roundels and bats, together with a second buzi with a similar scene but minus the bird, mounted in glazed frames, the frames 33cm high, 34cm wide (2) - PROVENANCE: From the collection of Augustus Fletcher (1928-2020), thence by descent. From 1948 to 1958 Gus Fletcher served in the Colonial Police in Malaya, and latterly was Assistant Superintendent of Police and Area Special Branch Officer in the Kuala Pilau and Bahau Police Districts of Negri Sembilan. He was awarded the George Medal in 1957 after a combined police and military operation code-named “Googly” during the Malayan Emergency.
