TWO PAIRS OF COROMANDEL LACQUER DOUBLE-SIDED PANELS, ONE PAIR MOUNTED AS TABLE SCREENS

The pair of table screen panels carved and infilled with pigment to depict a figurative scene on one side and a branch of floral sprays to the reverse, raised on lacquered wood stands; the pair of panels with a series of shaped panels on one side and a calligraphic inscription to the reverse.

The table screens each contain a collector's label bearing a crest depicting a bear's head with erased muzzled and charged with a trefoil slipped. Although the exact provenance cannot be determined it has been narrowed down to the families Ambrow, Anbury, Anborrow, Barker, Beaumont, Benson, Bere, Brereton, Brewster, Chamberlain, Craddock, Fitzharry, Forth, Freckleton, Fulford, Gimber, Langham, Longham, Milburn, Spence and Travis.
