TWO SAFAVID KUBACHI POTTERY DISHES Possibly Tabriz, North-Western Iran, 17th - 18th century Comprising a large pottery charger, of typical shallow rounded shape, resting on a thin, circular foot, with an everted flattened rim, the fritware body painted in cobalt blue, red, yellow, green and outlined in black against a white ground, the decoration typical of Safavid Kubachi wares with two interlocking vegetal tendrils in the central roundel, the negative ground filled with roses against red, green and yellow grounds, the cavetto featuring a wide band of stylised intertwined split palmettes against a blue ground, the exterior plain, 35.5cm diam. and 6.5cm high; and another Kubachi pottery plate, smaller in size but similar in decoration, the central roundel presenting five plump birds in flight and stylised flower heads against a cobalt blue ground, the cavetto repeating the same split palmette motif of the previous charger, 27.3cm diam. and 5cm high.
