TWO SAMANID SLIP-PAINTED EPIGRAPHIC POTTERY BOWLS Possibly Khorasan, Eastern Iran or Transoxiana, Central Asia, 10th century Comprising a small bowl, of conical shape, resting on a thin double-disc base, the slip-painted cream ground decorated on the interior with a continuous calligraphic band of stylised pseudo-Eastern Kufic script on the cavetto and comma-like symbols in the centre, the exterior plain, 21cm diam. and 6.8cm high; and another, larger, the interior more articulated and decorated with a central infinite knot motif painted in light brown, and a wide calligraphic band of black and red-painted pseudo-Kufic script on the cavetto, the exterior plain, 27cm diam. and 9.4cm high.Click here to share:
