TWO SHEATHED SAILOR'S KNIVES 19th Century

Both knives with ebony handles. One sheath is leather and the other is sailor's ropework. Tip is broken off on one, likely under orders from the captain. Lengths inclusive of sheaths 9.5".

This type of knife is illustrated in Clifford Ashley's Book of Knots , p. 20, fig. 93.

One knife from John Rinaldi, Kennebunkport, Maine, Catalog 35, 2004, Lot #30.
