TWO WHITE AND RUSSET JADE PENDANTS
Qing Dynasty

The largest: 6cm (2 3/8in) high. (2).

Footnotes

清 玉龍鳳紋韘形珮及玉螭龍紋珮一組兩件

The she (韘) was originally a tool worn on the right thumb by archers to hook and draw the bowstring. From the late Eastern Zhou dynasty onward, it gradually evolved into a type of ornament with a heart-shaped body and openwork designs, known as a she-shaped pendant (韘形珮). Since the late Ming dynasty, the social fashion for collecting antiquities had given rise to a trend of producing archaistic imitations as seen in the present lot.

See a related jade she-shaped pendant, late Ming/early Qing dynasty, in the Qing Court collection, the Palace Museum, Taipei (acc.no.故玉003260N000000000).
