Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson, grandson and disciple of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi – author of Tanya and son-in-law and successor of (his maternal uncle) Rabbi Dov Ber of Lubavitch. Author of Tzemach Tzedek, Derech Mitzvosecho, Derech Emuna, Or Hatorah and numerous other writings. In addition to his greatness in Torah and his leadership of the Lubavitch chassidic movement, the Tzemach Tzedek was deeply involved in efforts to improve the spiritual and material state of Russian Jewry, working in cooperation with other Torah leaders - who all held in the highest regard.
