Albumen print, 230mm x 185mm pasted on board in card mount. City of Peking at the Dock no.3707 by Taber of San Francisco c1880. Isaiah West Taber had travelled to San Francisco in search of gold. After working for a photographic studio between 1864-71, he set up his own studio. Taber printed and published work for other photographers. Sadly, in the 1906 earthquake, most of his stock was destroyed. The City of Peking and her sister ship, The City of Tokio were the 2 largest vessels built in the U.S at the time. Excellent condition with good, strong tones.
