Tall Roman Glass Bottle w/ Swirled Ribs

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A beautiful mold-formed vessel comprised of transparent glass in seafoam green hues. The smooth concave base without a pontil mark supports a piriform body that tapers to a cylindrical neck with an elegantly pinched lower end, rising to a dramatically outfolded horizontal rib just below the rim. Dozens of pattern-molded diagonal ribs spiral around the body before terminating just beneath the neck. So attractive and quite sizeable! Size: 5.625" in diameter x 10.375" H (14.3 cm x 26.4 cm)

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Martin J. Wunsch collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 1980s
