Tall Roman Near-Opaque Glass Flask

[ translate ]

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A lovely flask made from near-opaque, blue-green glass with a flat base and rough pontil scar, a piriform body with a lightly indented neck line, a tapering tubular neck, and an in-folded discoid rim. Thick, dark encrustations along the interior and exterior of the vessel imbue it with its dark color, though faint areas of silvery iridescence are still visible. Size: 2.125" W x 5.25" H (5.4 cm x 13.3 cm).

Provenance: private California, USA collection; ex-Malter Auctions, California, USA, 1980s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#135121
Condition Report: Area of repair to rim and upper neck, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Extensive encrustations and deposits along most interior and exterior surfaces, with light abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. A rough pontil scar indicates this vessel was free-blown. Nice earthen deposits and faint silver iridescence throughout.
