Tang Dynasty Polychrome Earthenware Caparisoned Horse with Rider

618-907 AD, unglazed, the robed rider seated on a molded saddle atop a broad saddlecloth, the finely modeled, expressive horse with hogged mane and docked-wrapped tail, retains the painted bridle along with chest and crupper straps strung with pendants, possibly conch shells, presented on a self plinth base.
Includes the 1985 thermoluminescence test results and a copy of the Manheim Galleries invoice.

Provenance: Purchased in June of 1985 at Manheim Galleries, New Orleans, Louisiana; Estate of Julia Hamilton, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Notes: Daybreak Nuclear and Medical Systems, Inc., in Guilford, Connecticut, performed the thermoluminescence tests in April of 1985. Those results were declared consistent with the suggested date per the document bearing the laboratory seal and signature of V. J. Bortolot.
