c. 214 cm h x 223 cm w, c. 1700. Baroque silk and wool weaving with a satirical depiction of a boar hunt through the ages. The two most famous divine archers of antiquity, Apollo and Eros, turn their backs contemptuously on the nobility hunting with long weapons. A falcon stands idly on the sidelines. The detailed pictorial carpet is a clear commitment to classic boar hunting with a boar feather and ironically depicts modern hunting with a long gun as unworthy of a true hunter. Minor professional repairs and a subsequently added external galloon, mounted on linen, clean and in good condition. The colour scheme is superb. (VP)
