TAYLOR, ZACHARY

LETTER SIGNED ("Z. TAYLOR") AS PRESIDENT, TO BENJAMIN SEAVER, PRESIDENT OF THE COMMERCIAL COUNCIL OF BOSTON DISCUSSING A PROPOSED TRIP TO NEW ENGLAND

One page (10 x 8 in.; 254 x 204 mm) on a bifolium, with original franked cover signed ("Z. Taylor"), Washington, 23 July 1849; part of cover verso detached, two minor internal tears, one affecting text.

Taylor is unable to set a time for his proposed trip to New England. "I am compelled to say...that the time of my departure and the route to be taken are yet uncertain. It is my wish to visit not only Boston, but several places in its vicinity, and I shall prolong my stay in eastern Massachusetts sufficient for that purpose, but whether it will be before or after the Syracuse Fair has not yet been decided..." Later in the summer of 1849 Taylor set off on his Presidential trip to the Eastern states but soon had to cut it short because of illness.
