Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (Mirage Studios, 1984) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages. An impeccable first printing copy of a book that just continues to climb in collector interest, and in price! It famously features the origins and first appearances of the sewer-dwelling, pizza-eating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo), Splinter (the grave and stoic sage of the Turtles, their ninjutsu and martial arts instructor, and their adoptive father), and Shredder (supervillain and the main antagonist of the turtles). The issue had an initial print run of just 3,000 copies, making high-grade copies scarce in general, and this particular copy bears the highest grade assigned to any copy of #1 by CGC to date. From looking at the razor sharp corners in our high resolution scans, you can see why. It's worth noting that in September of last year we auctioned a NM/MT 9.8 copy of #1 for $120,000 -- Cowabunga! The wraparound cover is by Kevin Eastman, and the story and interior art are by Eastman and Peter Laird. Currently the #2 book on Overstreet's list of Top 25 Copper Age Comics. Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $22,000. CGC census 1/24: 46 in 9.8, none higher. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
