Tekke Kapunuk

The white-ground decorative Turkmen hangings known as "kapunuk" were dowry items that were suspended from the inner crossbeam of the door to the bridal tent. They were chiefly woven by the Tekke, Salor and Saryk. The memorable primary design in the horizontal panel, which merges seamlessly into the arms branching off it at right angles, consists of large curled leaves attached to a vine running in straight and angled lines. It is complemented by smaller curled leaves in the horizontal panel, ashik guls and many tiny amulets. This kapunuk is very fine in weave, and accordingly the design is precisely drawn.

Good condition with the original decorative fringes. Upper finish backed with a textile band.
