The plate represents one of the key moments of this work.

Roger de Tainchebraye known as Nez-de-cuir, disfigured in combat during the French campaign in 1814 and become the most formidable Dom Juan of his native Normandy, reveals his frightening face for the first (and last) time to Judith de Rieusses, the woman he is madly in love with and who cannot stand this “horror vision”.

Note that in the version published by Futuropolis (see last additional image) the texts corresponding to the voice-over were printed in white on a black background and not the other way around, to differentiate them from the comments made by the two protagonists.
