Une sculpture similaire entière de Guanyin en bois, datée des Song du Nord/Jin est conservée au Cleveland Museum of Art, inv. n°1981.53. Deux autres sculptures entières de Bodhisattva, avec une couronne et une coiffure similaires, datées des dynasties Song et Yuan, ont été vendues chez Sotheby’s, New York, 20 mars 2012, lot n°57. Une autre, datée de la dynastie Song, a également été vendue chez Sotheby’s, Hong Kong, 5 avril 2016, lot n°2865
Guanyin (skr. Avalokiteshvara), Bodhisattva de la compassion et de la miséricorde, occupe une place centrale au sein du panthéon bouddhique chinois. D’origine indienne, cette divinité fut accueillie en Chine sous la dynastie des Tang. Accessible au commun des mortels, d’où son extrême popularité, quiconque prononçait le nom de Guanyin durant des temps troublés se voyait sauvé de ses tourments – son prénom signifiant « qui compatit aux regards et aux voix de la souffrance ». Bien que les Bodhisattva n’aient pas de genre déterminé, Guanyin a en Chine été progressivement, dès la dynastie des Song, représentée de manière féminine, comme l’illustre la sculpture que nous possédons.

A similar entire wooden Guanyin sculpture, dated Northern Song/Jin, is kept in the Cleveland Museum of Art, inv. no. 1981.53. Two other complete Bodhisattva sculptures with a similar crown and headdress, dated to the Song and Yuan dynasties, have been sold at Sotheby's, New York, 20 March 2012, lot no. 57. Another, dated to the Song Dynasty, has also been sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 5 April 2016, lot no. 2865.

Guanyin (skr. Avalokiteshvara), Bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, occupies a central place in the Chinese Buddhist pantheon. Of Indian origin, this deity was welcomed in China during the Tang dynasty. Accessible to the common man, hence its extreme popularity, whoever uttered the name Guanyin during troubled times was saved from his torment - its first name meaning "who sympathizes with the looks and voices of suffering". Although the Bodhisattva do not have a specific gender, Guanyin was gradually represented in China from the Song Dynasty onwards in a feminine manner, as illustrated by the sculpture that we possess.
